Hundreds of kilometres between your old and new home

Moving between cities within the Kingdom

When you move from Riyadh to Jeddah or from Jeddah to Dammam, the move is no longer a few hours within the district. Your furniture will spend a day or more on a long road in high heat, be loaded and unloaded in two different cities, and perhaps wait a day before you arrive and get the keys to the new home. All of that needs stronger packing, a suitable truck and a clear agreement on the arrival time.

With SaudiMoving you give the departure and arrival cities, the size of your home and the date, and your request reaches moving companies working that route, who contact you with offers. See the most requested moving routes, such as Riyadh to Jeddah and Riyadh to Dammam.

What does moving between cities include?

  • Packing for long distances

Stronger wrapping for furniture and appliances, because vibration and heat on the road are harsher. See packing.

  • A suitable truck

Usually a closed truck rather than an open pickup, big enough for one trip.

  • Loading and unloading in two cities

A crew at departure, and a crew — or the same one — at arrival.

  • Dismantling and reassembly

Taking furniture apart before the trip and rebuilding it in the new home. See furniture assembly.

  • Temporary storage

If the new home isn’t ready on arrival. See furniture storage.

  • Kitchen and AC units

Removed in the first city and reinstalled in the second — or sold and replaced, whichever suits you.

How moving between cities works, step by step

It starts with setting the loading date and an approximate arrival date, and deciding whether your belongings travel alone in the truck or with another load — each option has a different cost and time. Furniture is then dismantled, packed firmly and loaded so nothing shifts during the trip.

The truck usually leaves right after loading or the next day, and trucks take longer than private cars because of speed limits and stops. On arrival everything is unloaded, placed and reassembled — or stored temporarily if you’re not ready.

Because you may travel before or after your furniture, agree who receives it and who signs for it. Read how to plan a long-distance move.

What to prepare before moving between cities

  • The handover date and keys for the new home, so the furniture doesn’t arrive before you can get it in.
  • A numbered list of furniture and boxes, with a copy you keep to check on arrival.
  • A bag for the first days — papers, medicines, clothes — that travels with you, not with the furniture.
  • Photos of valuable furniture before loading.
  • A decision on the kitchen, AC units and old appliances: are they worth moving a long distance?

Common problems with intercity moves

  • Late arrival

Especially when several loads share one truck. Agree an approximate arrival time in writing.

  • Damage from heat and vibration

Sensitive electronics, candles and cosmetics suffer in heat — take them with you if you can.

  • Missing boxes on arrival

Check the count against your list while unloading, before the crew leaves.

  • Unexpected storage costs

If the home isn’t ready. Ask about waiting or storage costs in advance.

Questions to ask the moving company

  • Is the truck closed, and are my belongings alone in it or with another load?
  • What are the loading date and the approximate arrival time?
  • Does the same crew unload in the other city, or another crew?
  • Are packing, dismantling and reassembly included in the price?
  • What happens if something is damaged on the road? Do you have goods-in-transit cover?
  • Is the company registered and licensed to carry goods between cities?

What affects the price of an intercity move?

We don’t quote prices — they depend on the route, the season and the company. The main factors:

Distance and route

Riyadh to Dammam is not Riyadh to Jeddah; every route has its own cost.

Volume

Decides the truck size and the number of trips.

Full truck or shared load

A dedicated truck is faster and safer; a shared load usually costs less but takes longer.

Services in both cities

Dismantling and packing in the first, reassembly in the second, kitchen and AC work.

Storage and waiting

If the new home isn’t ready on arrival.

Season

The end of the school year and summer are busier on long routes.

Moving between cities FAQ

How long does moving from Riyadh to Jeddah take?

It depends on the loading and departure time and the type of truck. See the Riyadh to Jeddah page for the approximate distance, and ask the company for the expected arrival.

Should my belongings travel alone in a full truck?

If there’s a lot of furniture or valuable pieces, a dedicated truck is faster with less loading and unloading. For a small load, a shared truck may suit you better.

What should I take in my own car?

Important papers, gold, medicines, heat-sensitive electronics and a bag for the first days.

Can my furniture be stored in the new city?

Yes, with many companies. Mention in the request that you may need temporary storage.

Do you carry out the move yourselves?

No. We pass your request to moving companies working between cities; the agreement and the move are directly between you and the company.

Do I need special papers to move between cities?

You usually don’t need anything special to move your own furniture, but keep the inventory and the company’s contract. The company is responsible for its goods-transport licences and truck papers.
